*Discussion*
Due to light turnout, the group agreed to abbreviate the call. Ken reported that Shibboleth coding is moving forward, and asked Jim and Phil if their campuses have content that requires "not-particularly-complex rights management" and that could be made available for the Shibboleth pilot deployment. Jim noted that UW has made 700 hours of streaming video content freely available. On the other hand, in a partnership with Paul Allen's EMP, UW is working on archiving live audio streams from radio station KEXP; rights management for this material will be complex, including tracking the number of times each song is played (an RIAA requirement). Ken noted that Colorado holds most of the rights for Glenn Miller's recordings, and suggested using Shibboleth to share this material among the five Colorado campuses. Phil noted that NYU is building more and more video collections that have unified themes but not unified ownership, including a popular archive documenting the history of performance art. Interest in this material is considerable, but is currently satisfied by making and mailing tapes. Ken noted that the Shibboleth model allows sub-trees of sites to have their own sub-polices, making it possible for one server to manage content to which diverse policies apply. There was general agreement that the Shibboleth model is worth pursuing for VoD.
