*Discussion*

Tyler briefly described the new version of the mobility standard and how it incorporates border elements from H.323 Annex G, which is not yet widely adopted.

Nadim and Tyler met with Paul Jones of Cisco, chair of ITU Study Group 16, charged with multimedia communications, and discussed submitting commObject to the ITU. The chair indicated he would support submitting commObject as its own separate standard. This would mean that commObject would be free to include any desired protocols. It also would no longer need to pursue separate approval for both the ITU and IETF. The next Study Group 16 meeting is June 24-26 in Geneva. CommObject will be submitted then to get it on the agenda for discussion at the October meeting of the study group.

One issue with creating a separate standard around commObject is that of copyright. The ITU requires surrendering copyright, and all individual authorship is removed. [AI] Steve will investigate copyright issues and policy within Internet2 and report back to the list.

- subgroup updates -

AuthN/Z is on a 2-week hiatus. The web services approach appears to be a way to get something concrete that will help move things forward in the short term. There is still debate over what the appropriate long-term solution will encompass.

Resource Discovery is leaning towards web services for certain aspects. Resource Discovery is also looking at using peer-to-peer in a proposal to NSF. Perhaps they could coordinate with AuthN/Z. The white paper is available at http://middleware.internet2.edu/video/. One issue is how to discover and register resources for searching. How you screen material and control access is also a major concern. The NMI testbed participant institutions will be asked for feedback on issues, interest, and comments on the associated papers in time for the next NMI release, 1.5, in November.

Inter-realm Directories is a commObject related project. The testbed institutions will be polled to see which ones are interested in participating as well as coordinating the project’s test environment.
