*Discussion*
There was an initial meeting on the SIP Identity discussion. There were attributes that Samir is going to check on and report back. Nadim indicated that a draft will be put together and circulated for comments in several weeks.
Jill and Egon had a conversation with Philippe Galvez of VRVS (Virtual Rooms Videoconferencing System) http://www.vrvs.org/ about the concept of VRVS identity. VRVS is not a conferencing system; it's more of a scheduler and resource management system. For the way VRVS is developing we feel it's important that VRVS support H.323 identity, Shibboleth identity, and AccessGrid identity in contrast to having it's own VRVS identity. That might happen to the AccessGrid as well. AccessGrid is using Mbone conferencing tools, which are difficult to describe because you don't have your own caller id, you join a multi-cast group that is set by something else. Setting up the multi-cast group and the description of the session going on may be something we want to look at and potentially store in directory services. This will be part of the agenda with the AccessGrid people once a date for a meeting is found. Jill has contacted the AccessGrid people to schedule a meeting to discuss collaboration and AccessGrid node identity.
H.235 annex E discussion: How can we contribute? Nadim shared that the reporter's
meetings at the ITU are open to anyone. People are encouraged to show up and
ask questions. There will be a meeting in February but the meeting location
has not been scheduled. One question to be discussed is Annex G regarding security.
A new suggestion or profile written as an ITU format document is a good way
to present a suggestion. Nadim volunteered to take the lead on writing up a
profile and soliciting input.
[AI] Nadim will e-mail the list for suggestions and input.
Egon visited Cisco's EBC. Cisco is doing a lot on voice over IP in both the SIP and H.323 space. They have some great ideas and it's going well but most of the information is under NDA. There are some items that have been publicized on the Cisco web site. Egon will look into the authentication they want to do and see what's publicly available and send it to the list.
Internet2 is scheduled to rollout the new website on Monday. After the new web site debuts we'll revisit splitting the VidMid page into separate VC/Authn/z and VOD pages. Comments, suggestions, links are welcome. Please forward them to Jeanette and Steve. E-mail will go out to the list on Friday confirming if the site rollover is happening as scheduled.
After 18 months of VidMid calls we have commObject, the SIP and H.323 identities, we have spun off activity to look at Authn/z, and VOD. After discussion it was decided that VC has work to continue with but it will be an important exercise to clearly define that agenda. It was also agreed that there is enough work to have a more technically focused dedicated call for Authn/z.
The next VC call is scheduled for December 2, 2002. The next Authn/z call will be Tuesday December 3.
