[AI] {Nadim} will send the H.350.7 XMPP Profile document to {SteveO} and {Tyler},
for posting on the H.350 page (linked from the WG page).
*Discussion*
{Nadim} spoke of the general interest regarding videoconferencing at the ITU-T
Study Group workshop. The 58 attendees represented many countries, such as Brazil
and the Netherlands. Nadim hosted the workshop on H.350 via videoconferencing
for the first Australian middleware CAMP. There will be other international
workshops happening soon, details will follow as available. XMPP has been submitted
to the IESG for approval as a standard, after which it will be referred to as
a standard in support of the H.350 XMPP profile at the next ITU-T meeting in
Geneva at the end of July. All related items and scenarios should be brought
to the meeting in February, so as to review them before taking them to the Geneva
meeting. [AI] {Nadim} will send the H.350.7 XMPP Profile document to {SteveO}
and {Tyler}, for posting on the H.350 page (linked from the WG page).
The I2IM WG is dormant; however, the list is still active, and relevant topics should still be posted to that list for discussion. http://middleware.internet2.edu/i2im/
There was some resistance at the recent ITU-T meeting to the Federated Multimedia conferencing document. The {Group} questioned whether it would be best to pursue the standardization effort through the IETF or the ITU. Though the ITU-T leadership is supportive, that route would take a great deal of effort and time. It might be a better option to send it through the IETF, where it will be visible to many WGs. It is a question of which working group it would best be suited for, so as not to confuse it with a conferencing protocol. Active WGs are currently focused on protocol and issues; no group is currently covering a federated security model. If there is enough interest at a BoF at the next IETF meeting in March in Minneapolis, it may be valuable to investigate the creation of a new working group within the IETF.
For next year's Working Group agenda, the {Group} proposes to focus on developing a federated security model applicable to videoconferencing. The {Group} will investigate the possibility of an NMI-EDIT H.350 Middleware CAMP in the future. Two to three days could be devoted to this, in conjunction with related technologies, such as SIP or H.323. It will be important to develop the tools that make it easy to deploy H.350, whether or not it includes hardware. The next step is to involve vendors who will support these efforts, eventually heading towards vendor-sponsored workshops or CAMPs.
The next call will be Monday, January 10, 2004 at 11am ET.
