[AI] {Nadim} will work on the proposed letter to MACE regarding federated AuthN and AuthZ in support of real-time communication tools, focusing on the work of VidMid-VC to date, and proposing that MACE use this as a foundation to advance and endorse a recommended common approach for use by other areas within Internet2 working on communications applications.

{Group} will move forward with the proposed letter to MACE, making sure that proposed approach is not in conflict with the two Internet Drafts recently circulated to this list from Jon Peterson.

It was noted that while user privacy may be a goal and an option within some applications of the Shibboleth system (if you chose to use it), it is not a requirement if not called for within the specific application.

While XMPP is not yet an IETF-approved standard, work is proceeding on an H.350 extension for XMPP. The time to submit it to the ITU for approval would be at the Spring Meeting in Geneva, when it will presumably have been officially approved as a standard; however it can be mentioned ahead of time, so the ITU is aware of the work taking place. {Nadim} has created the attributes for the XMPP extension to H.350 and the object class for XMPP and XMPPidentityURI, and to represent XMPP URI, as defined by Peter Saint-Andre in the Internet Draft "A Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) Scheme for the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP)"
http://www.xmpp.org/drafts/draft-saintandre-xmpp-uri-06.html

Once Tyler and Nadim are finished editing the XMPP extension to H.350 document, it will be made available on the VidMid-VC H.350 site.

The next call will be Monday, November 15, 2004 at 11:00am ET.
