*Action Items*
[AI] {Bob} will send .htaccess local syntax
to the group via the list.
[AI] {Tom} will send a few brief
Signet case studies to the group via the list.
[AI] {Group}
will develop use cases for Signet.
[AI] {Jennifer} will solicit
on site feedback from UC Davis about the UI demo/mock up.
[AI]
{Minh} will develop a list of requirements for how Signet will
interface with LDAP and Grouper.
[AI] {Tom, Jennifer, and Gary
Brown} will discuss the modularity of Signet's UI and the internationalization
of code for Grouper and Signet. There will be a separate call
for this item.
[AI] {Lynn} will write up a person and function
summary to express the relationship of privileges to roles
and to determine what gets expressed in the eduPerson entitlement
space.
*Discussion* {Lynn} told the Group that a v0.7 may be released in order to make the current work available. {Jennifer} is working on design considerations to simplify the labeling, and thus navigation through proxy features in v0.6, such as meta-privileges, acting as subsystem owner and sysadmin, etc. The Group decided it would be best to take the necessary time and complete the items on the list, rather than rush for an early production release. The Signetv1.0 release is still anticipated in early January.
Documentation is planned to arrive alongside the v1.0 release. When the formal release of the API is made available, additional configuration will be required, and currently certain files may need to be copied to multiple destinations. {Nate} suggested incorporating scripts where possible, to automate and simplify configuration steps with the Signet installation process.
Another point was raised that commonalities between Signet, Grouper, and Shibboleth should be approached in a single step, eliminating redundancy of database, Tomcat, Java instruction and support. Platform- and/or application-specific details can be linked from these common pages.
The Group discussed which versions of Tomcat, etc. should be officially supported. The Signet wiki, yet to be created, will foster additional contributed work, e.g., for Oracle, etc.
Plans are underway for a future Signet/Grouper Early Adopters Deployment workshop, tentatively over March 21-23. The workshop would focus on installation and integration of Signet and Grouper, as well as solutions for provisioning data to directories; use cases will be developed. Proposed details of the event were forwarded to the Signet-dev mailing list; exact dates and venue will be posted as they are finalized. Call attendees from U. Cornell, USC, U. Washington, U.C. Davis expressed a definite interest in sending representatives to the workshop. [AI] Those interested in attending the workshop should contact Ann with available dates; Ann will schedule the event so all interested can attend.
The next Signet WG call scheduled for Friday, December 23 will be cancelled due to the nearing holidays. Therefore, the next Signet WG call will be held on Friday, January 6, 2006 at 11am ET.
