Discussion
The next steps for the mailing list administrator survey will be to announce
the survey results. The results will be posted on the WG’s website along
with a copy of the survey allowing for additional comments. The survey results
indicate that interest about mailing list software exists in the higher ed community.
Survey results highlights also include an interest in LDAP mailing list management
software implementations, open source mailing list management software solutions
and the determination that many of the respondents currently consider changing
their mailing list management software applications. Most respondents use Mailman
or Major Domo, L-Soft or LISTSERV for mailing list management.
WG efforts for model unification are underway. Comments about the model unification should be sent to the WG via the list.
The group will invite Sympa developers to participate in an upcoming call to discuss the Sympa model and the WG’s integration model.
The group will discuss survey results with Mailman developers prior to the Spring I2 Member Meeting in May.
The group discussed topics for proposing as sessions at the Spring I2 Member Meeting in May. The meeting will be held in Arlington, VA from May 2 – 4, 2005. It was discussed that perhaps a BoF session might be an appropriate venue to discuss the survey results. It was proposed to discuss the UAB grant incorporating middleware integration of mailing list management software and PHP wiki or other content management applications. Suggestions for topics should be sent to the WG via the list.
The next call is Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at 12:00PM ET. A new, permanent
call in number will be disturbed with the agenda prior to the call.
