*Discussion*
NMI-EDIT will hold an Advanced CAMP workshop discussing leveraging
campus infrastructure to support virtual organizations from June 29 to
July 1, 2005 at the Westin Tabor Center in Denver, Colorado. The
activities of the MACE-MList WG pertaining to bundling open source
system tools with federated administrative tools will be discussed at
the workshop. For more information please see:
http://www.educause.edu/camp053.
The WG will provide information about middleware enabling of mailing
lists and the next version of Sympa to NMI-EDIT for the next NMI-EDIT
release.
Craig Hancock from Notre Dame has volunteered to integrate FEDORA core
with Sympa. Craig's contact information will be listed on the WG's web
site in an effort to, along with Sympa developers, facilitate further
collaboration for the development.
As a result of the WG's presentations at the Spring Internet2 Member
Meeting, institutions have expressed interest in using open-source
integrated mailing list management software. The primary focus of the
WG has been on how to develop an open-source integrated MLM, however,
equipment will be ordered soon to serve as an open-source MLM prototype
by the Internet2 community. Sympa developers will provide an
interactive demo for federation member higher-ed institutions desiring
to evaluate open-source MLM's. The demo will limit the number of group
members per mailing list.
Sympa developers will also include some of the WG's efforts into Sympa
for a Sympa release to be available early this fall.
Is it within the scope of MACE activities to focus on spam, mailing
lists and implications of new standard's issues? In order to address
these topics in the MACE-MList WG, the WG would have to revise its
charter and subsequent deliverables. It is possible to collaborate on
these issues with SALSA, however direction from MACE is desired prior
to the new collaborative effort. The VO survey is the final deliverable
for the WG under the current version of its charter.
The next call is Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at 11:00AM ET**. **Please note
the new call time. The call in number will be distributed with the
agenda prior to the call.
