Ongoing Pilot Projects - updates
Georgetown University’s Project Sentinel Collaboratory update - University
Information Services plans to set up an identity provider site. The hardware
has been ordered. Installation and testing should begin soon after the hardware
arrives. The institution seeks to set up a temporary Shibboleth origin for Azyxxi
for a limited web based demonstration. The Shibboleth development should be
completed by the beginning of October. The project raises the question of how
to set up a trust fabric without the formality of a federation. This effort
is a good example of business needs and could be used as a case study. For more
information please see http://biodefense.georgetown.edu/project-sentinel.asp.
The group discussed the AAMC identifiers and the identifiers’ role in CME. The identifiers are not used for authentication at this time. At Duke University, a limited-use Duke ID is given to outside clinicians affiliated with Duke medical facilities, in many cases because several clinicians don’t have an AAMC identifier. The AAMC identifier program does not take into account other clinicians like nurses. However, it does account for faculty members who have positions within schools of medicine.
The BoF at the Internet2 Fall Member Meeting in Austin, TX September 27-30
has been rescheduled to Monday, September 27 from 1:00PM – 2:30PM. For
more information please see http://events.internet2.edu/2004/fall-mm/. A reminder
of this change will be sent to the group via the list. The BoF will focus on
recent developments in public health and medical IT.
There is a Health Sciences Task Form meeting open to the public on Monday, September
27 during the Fall I2MM. Mike Ackerman will speak about the NIH Roadmap. Jack
Buchanan will speak about the National Healthcare Information Infrastructure,
public health informatics and electronic health records. This discussion will
highlight the debate over the use of electronic medical records for research
versus clinical delivery of services. The call attendees were in agreement that
public health informatics is a logical direction for the MedMid WG, as it encompasses
secure inter-domain access to data, and would benefit from many of the projects
underway within the Internet2 Middleware and Security Initiative.
The University of Tennessee’s School of Public Health has developed a
proposal in response to a request from the CDC to provide automated access to
clinical data. The proposal encompasses bone density scans, collated images
with text and document tracking. More information about this project will be
made available soon.
The next call is Thursday, October 14, at 2:00PM ET.
