*Discussion*
The program for CAMP Med is now online . This CAMP is another in a
continuing series of workshops presented by the NSF Middleware
Initiative (NMI) EDIT consortium http://www.nmi-edit.org/index.cfm. It will
take place February 9-11, 2005 at the Tempe Mission Palms Hotel
and Conference Center, Tempe, Arizona. The Tempe Mission Palms Hotel is full.
Arrangements have been made with another hotel close-by for lodging. Full details
and registration information can be found at http://www.educause.edu/camp051.
This is the first CAMP to focus specifically on identity and access management
for medical and health-related applications and the technology issues faced
by academic medical centers. The CAMP will have interactive sessions for both
technical and policy interests. Additional topics are requirements and management
issues related to HIPAA and VOs. Issues discussed at CAMP will be considered
to inform future direction(s) for the MedMid WG.
Mike McGill has been selected to serve as Internet2’s Health Sciences program manager. Congratulations Mike. In response to an RFI from the National Health Information Network, Internet2 has been developing responses in coordination with the North Carolina Healthcare Information and Communications Association (NCHICA), the Markle Foundation, the AAMC and several other organizations. It is anticipated that the responses will have some impact on middleware integrated applications within Health Sciences and the responses will generate interest from Health and Human Services about federated organizational structures. These responses will be provided to the WG via links on the web site as soon as they are available.
The group discussed Internet2’s role and focus within the medical R&E community and further reaching implications for clinical practice. Should MedMid focus solely on the medical R&E community? Or, should MedMid incorporate clinical practice elements? Technical and software solutions for the R&E arena will also eventually impact clinical practice. However, there are already several organizations addressing these issues within the clinical practices arena. It was proposed that informing appropriate Health Sciences groups of the MedMid WG’s efforts is a step in the right direction to bridge the R&E and clinical practice arenas.
The Spring I2 Member Meeting is May 2-4, 2005 in Arlington, VA. The call for
proposals has been sent out with a deadline of January 21 for responses.

Pilot Updates
Georgetown University is working to integrate Shibboleth into the MonitorMan
component of Azyxxi. The next phase will define the authorization requirements
and attributes for the Project Sentinel environment. The Project Sentinel federation
has not yet been formally defined. Current plans include forming a federation
with Georgetown University’s Medical Center, Washington Hospital Center
and the DC Department of Public Health. InCommon will be evaluated as a possible
federation under which to operate once attribute and policy requirements have
been determined. This project may have further reaching implications outside
the DC area.
Since the next regularly scheduled call occurs during CAMP Med, the next call
will be held Thursday, March 10, 2005 at 2:00PM ET.
