One of the year one deliverables for the MW-E2ED advisory group was to compile a high
level survey of diagnostic tools and efforts not only in the middleware area, but also
in the network and security areas. The survey classified the tools and efforts into
three categories,
- Highly focused based on solving a specific problem
- Log file analysis and management
- Broad scope, combining data from many different sources to form a comprehensive solution
While this survey effort cannot possibly encompass all the tools and efforts in the
diagnostic space, we view it as a living document and encourage others to participate by submitting
information about new tools and efforts. Those who wish to contribute should submit the following
information about the tool or effort,
- Name of effort or tool
- URL pointer
- Description - A paragraph describing the effort or tool
- Platform - Unix(type), Windows(type), other?
- License - Private, open source, etc. If source is available, what is the primary coding language?
- Packaging - How is it packaged and distributed? Tar, RPM, binary or source, etc.
- Installation Dependencies - What packages and/or environments does it depend on? Eclipse, gcc, libpcap, others?
- Deployment - Comments on installation, configuration and management
- Usage - Wisdom one has gleaned from use
- Pros - Advantages
- Cons - Shortcomings with features
Please send this information to Chas DiFatta for submission.
