Agenda Items
Review of Previous Action Items
Chas opened the call with a update on the status of past action items.
- Chas, Matt had a very productive meeting. This included an update on new
roles for Matt, Russ, and Eric at Internet2. Eric needs to sit down and talk
with MW e2eD and see how they dovetail together well. Chas said he just got
off a good call with Eric about the work that a vendor is doing that fits well
with diagnostics. There are a lot of pieces of the End-to-End Performance Initiative
architecture that seem to fit. Need to start talking about this. Matt will
help shepherd this process.
- Chas spoke with Penn State people who manage the network and are responsible
for Shibboleth at Penn State. Renee Shuey helped make this happen. They are
deploying Shibboleth on production scale. This is a good solution for making
this happen. The person Chas spoke with is Mark Miller. They talked about a
wide variety of things including: helpdesk, operational staff, problems with
Shib. They are running into issues that go beyond installation. Mark said they
need a verification checker which would answer if the certificate has expired,
to pool data, to check the pipeline down the chain. Chas is going to check
in with Mark again at the end of the month since at the moment he is in the
midst of a new deployment and students are coming in. Chas has plans to go
meet with them when he goes back to Pittsburgh.
- Chas, Ken, Mark and George continue working on the Year Two and Year Three
documents, deliveries, goals, key partners, etc., etc.
Pilot Progress
The pilot continues making good progress. They are logging real time
events. Everything is working. They are capturing Windows Installer events.
Netflow v.5 is now working. The event viewer application is running.
There's a log normalizer on the Microsoft side. The SQL-izer that converts
data to SQL database format will be done by next week.
What's left for Chas is to write the Archiver System. The bulk archiver
will most likely be a time based schema.
There is currently data being captured that can be viewed at the ccBay
site.
Chas told Matt yesterday that he knew from the beginning that it would
be interesting to focus on efficiencies in representation. With the pilot
they threw out efficiencies in order to check concept. It's been good
collecting libraries and tools gather data. Now it's time to begin thinking
about what the data layout would look like. Transport mechanism for the
data will be an important thing to think about.
Reports from Meetings with Other Groups
Matt did not have time to meet with Katherine (INCH-RIDD) during IETF
meeting. He said that he didn't see the group on the agenda either.
Chas plans on getting together with Matt and Eric at least during the
Internet2 Fall Member Meeting. Sounds like what Eric was saying is very
similar to what working on. Matt commented that the DANTE network architecture
looks similar to MW e2eD work. He wondered about how the various network
preformance ideas work with the MW e2eD diagnostics. They will talk more
about this at later meeting.
There were comments about talking with SURFNet folks later in the month
to work out complimentary pieces of MW e2eD and the SURFNet Detective.
The call was adjourned.
