**Discussion**
- Discussion on Identity Assurance Profiles (was LoA) (see MACE-Dir
email thread "LoA Straw man proposal")
(ref Paul Caskey's mail to the list 24-Mar-08, subject "latest draft for eduPersonAssurance")
Etan spoke with NIH re the use of LoA attributes, and reported that they want to see LoA in a dedicated multi-valued attribute, which was the approach taken in the usPerson schema, which was never utilized and is now defunct.
It was observed that there are some communities that have an issue with eduPerson related to the "edu" in the name, on the assumption that it can/should only be used by the higher-ed community, which is definitely not the case.
The suggestion was made to reference the usPerson spec and utilize some elements of its authnLoA attribute definition, giving it an eduPerson OID. eduPersonAssurance was also suggested as a name. There are some who object to including "authn" in the name in order to clearly separate authentication from LoA. The profile will determine what is included, so eduPersonAssurance seemed to be the right name.
The group discussed and agreed upon several edits to the draft definition Paul sent out.
