The Directories/CourseID Birds of a Feather (BoF) session at the Fall Internet2 Member Meeting is scheduled from 8:30 – 10 am Monday September 27th with breakfast being available at 8 am. The session description is available at: http://events.internet2.edu/2004/fall-mm/sessionDetails.cfm?session=1707&event=219

The abstract for the BoF is: A new set of draft specifications, eduCourse, will be premiered at this session. Participants will be invited to kick the tires and ask the hard questions. If you are running a Learning Management System of some kind and are puzzling over how to integrate better with your core middleware, you'll find a community of the like-minded here. The BoF will also cover other aspects of current MACE-Dir work, including proposals for an isMemberOf attribute and analyses of locally developed schema.

Since the abstract solicits people involved with learning management systems it’s reasonable to expect a discussion of concepts and how to map models and proposals to real world usage. Questions discussed might include do these proposals support the Sakai Project (http://www.sakaiproject.org) open source Collaboration and Learning Environment (CLE)? Is Sakai consistent with this approach? Where is OKI relative to eduCourse?

The eduCourse model drafted by Tom, http://middleware.internet2.edu/courseid/docs/draft-internet2-courseID-eduCourse-01.html will be discussed as well.

The issue of how sub-sections can be handled is one topic to discuss. A recursive section function, could capture a lot of the potential section/sub-section granularity. The issue also relates to roles, are we standardizing a qualifier to attach to group membership that is from a common vocabulary? If so, does that apply to the subgroup concept being proposed?

Attendees can also be polled on what kind attributes they are interested in capturing, and how the object classes might be further developed.

Keith will also distribute another draft of the Globally unique identifiers for course offerings for discussion.

Since the BoF is the same day as the regularly scheduled CourseID call, the September 27th call is cancelled.
