*Discussion*

E-Auth developments:
- Bob reported that the Federal Credential Assessment Framework (CAF) folks recently visited UW; they are looking at processes there and at two other schools to establish an initial baseline. Ken stressed that the Framework is still very much open to modification; see http://www.cio.gov/eauthentication/CredSuite.htm for the current versions.
- The E-Auth effort is planning its first inter-federation meeting for March 17 in DC. This group will be looking for recommendations on a prospective USPerson schema -- a standard list of attributes that Federal agencies could count on as R&E counts on eduPerson. [AI] Ken will forward specifics on the E-Auth inter-federation meeting as they become available.
- Ken is working with E-Auth and PESC to find funding for work on federated digital signatures. This looks promising; likely initial foci will be XML transcript exchange and creating cross-university role definitions. A panel on federated digital signatures is being planned for the April 19-21 PKI R&D Workshop (http://middleware.internet2.edu/pki05/). Bob characterized the principal difference between the classic and federated signature models as having to do with where the evaluation of the cert chain is done: by the end user in the classic model, by an entity at the institutional level in the federated model. [AI] Ken will ask Peter Alterman for information that campuses can use to get their registrars involved in the federated digital signatures work.

Upcoming meetings:
- Abstracts have been submitted for middleware sessions at the Spring Internet2 Member Meeting, focusing on the big picture, Signet, and Grouper. Ken is working on getting a guest speaker for the MACE dinner.
- The current plan for the upcoming CAMP (June 27 - July 1 in Denver) is for the first half to cover integrated identity management, and the second half to cover VO support; only the identity-management portion will bear the "Advanced" label. Ken noted that there is growing interest in Grids and other VOs, and suggested giving time to case studies of specific VOs. [AI] Ken will send his VOs presentation to selected MACErs for review. Bob and Tom suggested adding an explicit international focus.

Finally, Diego called the group's attention to his note on the security group being formed by the European Enabling Grids for E-sciencE (EGEE) project, and stressed his strong interest in recruiting MACErs to participate. [AI] All will review Diego's Feb. 7 email and reply to him if interested in participating.
