*Discussion*

The EUgridPMA was formally inaugurated at an April 1-2 meeting in Florence; see http://www.eugridpma.org/. This group is very interested in making use of TACAR (http://www.terena.nl/tech/task-forces/tf-aace/tacar/ ); the idea of a central store of proxy certs was also discussed. Ken noted that the TERENA list that discusses TACAR has been looking at stubborn issues like how to get certs into browsers; [AI] Ken will forward messages from the TACAR list to MACE. TACAR discussions are also planned within HEPKI-TAG and (informally) at the upcoming Internet2 Member Meeting.

The group discussed upcoming meetings:
- CSG is May 5-7; a draft agenda is available at http://www.stonesoup.org/.
- There will be a middleware gathering after the June 7-10 TERENA meeting in Rhodes (http://www.terena.nl/conferences/tnc2004/). Ken would like this meeting to include a discussion of what plumbing is needed to support Mellon's open-source efforts. Ken suggested that there be some short presentations on the individual projects, followed by open discussion of what people think the impact of these projects will be. [AI] Ken will send MACE the draft announcement of the post-TERENA middleware meeting; all will provide input on the agenda.
- Registration for the back-to-back late June - early July CAMPs is available at http://www.educause.edu/conference/nmi/2004/camp042/ and http://www.educause.edu/conference/nmi/2004/camp043/.

The rapidly growing number of Shibboleth deployments, including several expected soon outside the US, is drawing attention to the question of how Shibboleth will be managed and developed over the longer term. A conference call is being planned to discuss this issue with participants from the countries involved. [AI] Ken will get the minutes of the Shibboleth development model planning call posted on the web.

Bob noted that there has also been recent discussion of how to integrate Shibboleth into Mellon's Ithaka project, which is aimed at providing common infrastructure for not-for-profit services such as JSTOR and ARTstor. There is interest in having Ithaka's use of Shibboleth serve as a model, something that people can point to and say, "that's the way to integrate middleware." Steven observed that smaller schools are likely going to want the option of outsourcing their middleware infrastructure, and that Ithaka might be able to offer this service. Also with respect to outsourcing, Ken encouraged the group to look at EDUCAUSE's current "Extending the Reach" solicitation at http://www.nmi-edit.org/participation/index.html.
