*Discussion*
The group reviewed recent meetings and discussions:
- Mark Poepping led a session on email security at the Internet2 Member Meeting in Austin (http://events.internet2.edu/2004/fall-mm/sessionDetails.cfm?session=1759&event=219). Bob described this as a good first step; our efforts at engaging the email community haven't taken off yet, though we do have a mailing list set up.
- The MACE/SALSA dinner at the Member Meeting featured representatives from Identity Commons. While there is potential for engagement here -- in particular involving attribute control in Shibboleth -- nothing is currently planned. Identity Commons development is still at an early stage; Bob described it as alpha software supporting beta specs.
- Peter Alterman has gotten directly involved with incorporating Shibboleth into Federal E-Authentication (http://cio.gov/eauthentication/); this work is now moving along nicely. In this connection Ton noted the framework published by ECP.NL (http://www.ecp.nl/). This describes a self-assessment form for authentication providers, with the object of classifying them into low, medium, and high security levels. [AI] Ton will see if he can find something in English on the ECP.NL framework.
- With respect to network authentication, David pointed the group to Mikael Linden's Member Meeting presentation on "Roaming network access using Shibboleth
in University of Helsinki": http://www.internet2.edu/presentations/fall04/20040929-Shibboleth-Mikael.htm.
Upcoming meetings:
- A TF-EMC2 meeting has been scheduled for November 3-4 in Amsterdam. [AI] All will send Diego suggestions for topics at the TF-EMC2 meeting.
- Early registration for the November 15-19 CAMPs in San Diego ends October 20; see http://www.educause.edu/content.asp?SECTION_ID=9.
- The Australian CAMP has been scheduled for December 7-11; see http://www.aarnet.edu.au/events/middle/2004/.
- The European CAMP has been scheduled for March 2-4. The location is still TBD. Diego noted that "How can I make my stuff work with Shibboleth?" is a topic of particular interest among likely attendees.
Bob has been working on updates to the Internet2 IPR framework, license terms, and contributor agreement -- see http://members.internet2.edu/intellectualproperty.html for the current versions. Bob has shifted his recommendation from the Academic Free License to the v2.0 of the Apache License; see http://opensource.org/licenses/. [AI] Anyone who can help with the Internet2 IPR revisions, will contact Bob.
An InCommon technical advisory group is being formed; this group will be responsible for articulating the consensus of the InCommon technical community. One issue on which such consensus is currently being sought (mostly via extensive discussion on the MACE-Dir list) is how to implement federated identifiers, and in particular, how persistent federated identifiers need to be.
Finally, Bob announced that he is once again looking for new MACErs. [AI] All will send Bob their nominations for new MACE members.
