Recent meetings:
- Middleware had a higher profile at EDUCAUSE 2005 than in previous years; presentations are at http://www.educause.edu/conference/annual/2005. Tom called the group's attention to the EDUCAUSE Identity Management Services Program (http://www.educause.edu/imsp/). David noted that IMSP now has a deal with GeoTrust; see http://www.geotrust.com/about/news_events/press/pr_educause_101805s.pdf.
- Bob and Scott attended the Internet Identity Workshop (http://www.socialtext.net/iiw2005/index.cgi). Microsoft presented its identity metasystem; Scott suggested that MACE provide them some feedback on this. OpenID, a service to verify ownership of URLs used as identities, was of particular interest; see http://openid.net/. Many other technologies were also presented and discussed; Scott noted that "there's clearly some hostility of the opinion makers in this space to the existing standards."

Michael noted that Oracle has announced that support for CalDEV is coming in the second half of 2006.

Bob is planning to attend the initial meeting of the new OASIS Web Services Secure Exchange (WS-SX) Technical Committee (http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/workgroup.php?wg_abbrev=ws-sx), December 7-8 in Redmond. Bob expects this group to be both technically and politically interesting.

Bob noted that the Federal Government is mandating banks to move to strong authN by the end of 2006; Liberty Alliance is forming an Expert Group to address this. [See http://www.projectliberty.org/press/details.php?item_id=146.]
