*Discussion*
Ann and Bob attended an IdM roundtable at the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) Technology Conference (http://www.aacrao.org/tech07/index.htm). Bob noted that MACE is pursuing work on IdM with AACRAO via the InC-Student working group (https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/InCStudent); new members are welcome.
Upcoming meetings:
- The First International Federation Peering Workshop is September 3 in Prague; see http://www.terena.org/activities/refeds/workshop-01/index.html.
- The Mellon/NSF workflow conference will take place October 3-5 in Baltimore, chaired by Dennis Gannon (http://www.extreme.indiana.edu/~gannon/).
- The Internet2 Fall Member Meeting is October 8-11 in San Diego. The deadline for track submissions has been extended to Monday, August 6; see http://events.internet2.edu/2007/fall-mm/.
Ken noted e-government activities in OASIS and Liberty Alliance; see http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/tc-announce/200707/msg00010.html and http://www.projectliberty.org/liberty/strategic_initiatives/egovernment.
MACE continued its discussion of possibilities for outreach, education, and training.
- Ann West, Steve Carmody, and Renee Frost have discussed this with people from NITLE, who think that small colleges will be very interested in purchasing managed information services, and that Shibboleth will be a key part of this. NITLE is interested in working with MACE to do outreach to their campuses (http://www.nitle.org/index.php/nitle/about_nitle/colleges); they are putting together notes from the discussion and a draft proposal.
- Nate stressed that that we need to make sure that revenues from any support services (in particular, training and an 800 number) get fed back into the software development process; there was general agreement. Nate and Tom are both convinced that there is a substantial market for these services in higher education.
- There was general agreement that it would probably be better to have specialized training and support organization(s) -- for-profit or non-profit -- run these services, rather than Internet2 or MACE itself.
- [AI] Ken will set up an outreach, education, and support conference call, and notify MACE.
