Bob, Michael, and Paul Hill attended a recent Chandler review meeting. Bob noted that the architecture has changed a lot in the last few months, moving away from newer P2P approaches and toward a more traditional client-server architecture using WebDAV. There are plans for an pilot that people can interoperate with; Bob is interested in getting Shibboleth to work in this context. One issue with WebDAV is that some clients fail to be fully compliant with HTTP 1.1; new WebDAV specs addressing this are in the works. It's still not clear whether or not Chandler will include a calendar server; this is likely to depend on whether or not the R&E community is able to provide one. Bob noted that there is lots of new activity in the calendar space more generally, including the possibility of a new IETF working group to revise calendaring standards.
The group reviewed middleware sessions planned for the September 26 - October 1 Internet2 Member Meeting in Austin:
- The Sunday afternoon Sympa/MList workshop (http://events.internet2.edu/2004/fall-mm/sessionDetails.cfm?session=1682&event=219 will be followed by an email security BoF http://events.internet2.edu/2004/fall-mm/sessionDetails.cfm?session=1759&event=219 on Sunday evening.
- Ken is working on getting a speaker from Identity Commons (http://www.identitycommons.net/) for the Wednesday evening MACE/SALSA dinner.
The InCommon documents are being made public; see http://www.incommonfederation.org/policies.cfm. Ken is interested in comparing these with how things are done in other countries; he noted that JISC has committed to ensuring full interoperability between Shibboleth and Athens (see http://www.jisc.ac.uk/index.cfm?name=jisc_athens_shibboleth_pos_news050804). Work on incorporating Shibboleth into Federal E-Authentication (http://cio.gov/eauthentication/) is underway.
