*Discussion*

The group reviewed plans for upcoming meetings:
- Bob is going to the Sunday April 18 NAC session to present Internet2 work and discuss the NAC draft Security Architecure document. An agenda for the meeting is at http://www.netapps.org/Events/apr04confTOC.htm. [AI] All will send Bob their comments on the NAC draft Security Architecture document (see Keith's March 8 email to the MACE list for a URL).
- Renee noted that the program for the Member Meeting is close to final; see http://events.internet2.edu/2004/spring-mm/agenda.cfm.
- Bob noted that a CAMP-like meeting is in the works for Australia in July.
- The 3rd Annual PKI R&D Workshop is April 12-14; speakers include Stefan Brands and Peter Gutmann. See http://events.internet2.edu/2004/spring-mm/agenda.cfm.

The group discussed the draft charter for the MACE mailing lists working group (see Bob's March 22 email). Bob noted that the idea is to start by focusing on a specific piece of the middleware needed for collaboration tools; hopefully this will bring in people from the campuses who work with these kinds of tools but haven't been involved with middleware before. The group will be announced at the Member Meeting, and there will be an open BoF on Monday: http://events.internet2.edu/2004/spring-mm/sessionDetails.cfm?session=1398&event=203.

Mark gave a SALSA update. There has been some discussion of SPF-like work, and it looks like this is one of the things SALSA will be taking up. More generally, SALSA will address two areas:
- Architecture. There are a wide variety of contending approaches to security already on offer. SALSA will look at security benchmarks such as those published by SALS and EDUCAUSE, and try to figure out if there are any common directions among them. Marty Schulman is taking the lead here.
- Network databases, particularly as they relate to network authentication and the traveling scientist problem, and to abuse-scanning systems.
Mark noted that SALSA will have its first face-to-face at the Member Meeting. [AI] All will send Mark comments on the draft SALSA charter at http://security.internet2.edu/salsa.html.

Renee noted that EDUCAUSE has put out a call for proposals for its Extending the Reach Program; they're looking for someone to take over management of what NMI has built. Proposals are due May 3; see http://www.nmi-edit.org/participation/index.html.
