**Recent Meetings**
- NIH iTrust event
Ken attended. It was intended as a discussion of OpenID v. Federated IdM, but was predominantly focused on OpenID, esp WRT LoA. There was a great deal of interest in COmanage. There were representatives from the Federal Gov't who were involved in privacy issues. There will be a follow-up session in January, focused on business processes.
SAML-based federation still appears to be the most promising for NIH...

**Discussion**
- Internet2 news: CEO search etc
Doug has announced his departure, a search committee has been formed, and an executive recruiting firm has been retained. Doug will continue to serve until his replacement is on board.
- changes at Mellon Foundation
Ira and Chris will be leaving as of 1-Jan-2010. The programs formerly led by them will be folded into other areas. Implications for their involvement in open source IAM activities are not yet known.
- follow-ups re Kuali and Rice
Bob had a conversation with a member of the Rice board, who reported that they are finalizing the feature set for a 1.1 release late (September?) 2010. It is unclear whether there is more opportunity for input from us about this.
The Grouper developers continue work on the Grouper-KIM adapter...
The topic of GoogleSites arose, and there is no clear sign about its management of groups to date. The discussion then turned to how critical it is for the MACE-driven solutions to work with the various Google apps, v. other campus needs. (see below)
- solicitation-orama: NSF SDCI, NOAA, ESNet
The new SDCI solicitation: http://nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=5174
NOAA and ESNet have network-centric solicitations out, which include federation-related. This seems to be more and more common for "big-pipe" solicitations, and seems to be a good sign of acceptance of the important of federation across all areas.
- MACE mission followups
Integrating with Google is clearly important, and is driving a lot of the demands on campuses of late. Policy issues related to working with Google apps are still not sufficiently addressed.
The MACE mission has historically been more about architecture than integration, and discussion ensued about how best to serve campuses given the prominence of external apps such as Google's.
Q: does Google have a higher-ed advisory board? (as a side note, it appears that Apple's is no longer).
A: not that anyone on the call is aware of, but asking on the CSG list and pinging Google about this would be a good thing...
Q: are there international issues, e.g. data residing on servers outside the US, that are looming as obstacles for outsourcing to outside vendors such as Google?
A: yes, both in the US and elsewhere (e.g. the EU)...
- Call length-
There was consensus that extending the MACE calls to 90 minutes may be worth trying, depending on subject matter and context, along with better attention to budgeting time on the calls. This discussion will continue on the list...
