**Recent meetings**
- Educause Annual Meeting
October 28-31, 2008, Orlando FL
There were a number of IAM-oriented sessions. There was also an InCommon BoF.
There appears to be increasing interest in forming a group focusing on state higher-ed systems federations, as a follow on to FedSoup. There is also similar interest among the StateNets group.
http://www.educause.edu/StateNets/
Several groups are at the point of choosing whether to build a state federation as an overlay to InCommon as the trust backbone v. starting from scratch. Leveraging InCommon is viewed as the logical choice by most, since it offers a very attractive alternative to "reinventing the wheel."
One issue that comes up with increasing frequency is that some states want some entities to participate which would currently not qualify for InCommon participation (e.g. K12 or local/state government). While the InCommon Steering Committee is aware of this issue, it likely will not be resolved in the near term. Suggestions for "lightweight" approaches for addressing this issue in the near term would be welcomed, and interested state-level groups are encouraged to contact the InCommon Steering Committee with specifics
- GSA Identity Services Industry Day Briefings (aka E-Auth day)
November 5, 2008, Washington DC
http://www.cio.gov/eauthentication/drilldown_ea.cfm?action=ea_library
InCommon was mentioned in positive terms during the meeting. The Liberty Alliance Identity Assurance Framework, which grew out of the E-Auth CAF/CAP, also was mentioned in a positive light.
http://www.projectliberty.org/liberty/strategic_initiatives/identity_assurance
Interfederation does not seem to be gaining traction within the Liberty Alliance, and thus will likely need to be addressed in another forum.
An upcoming follow-on DoD event will also focus on utilizing federation. More info on this as it is available.
- Fall EuroCAMP
November 5-6, 2008, Athens
Brendan Bellina, USC (MACE-Dir chair) attended.

* Upcoming Meetings*
It was noted that the Kauli Foundation convenes a monthly call among leaders of various open-source SW projects (not limited to those which are Kuali-related), and given desires among all concerned for increased coordination the question arises as to whether MACE-sponsored projects ought to participate. More info on this as it is available.
- IETF
November 16-21, 2008, Minneapolis
http://www.ietf.org/meetings/73/
Representatives from the OAuth effort will be in attendance. RL “Bob” is working with ISOC on assembling clueful and interested e-mail admins just prior to the meeting, toward promoting a DKIM experiment. There will also be an OAuth BoF.
There are discussions underway about federated identity and SIP and firewalls, more to come on this as it develops.
- Internet Identity World (IIW)
Nov 10-12, 2008, Mountain View, CA
http://iiw.idcommons.net/index.php/Iiw2008b
The OASIS TC shepherding the InfoCard SAML profiles approved a committee draft version of Microsoft's submission of the specs.
- Kuali Days
November 18-19, 2008
Newport Beach, CA
Defining Rice and encouraging involvement in KIM from external voices will be among the priorities.
- Feb 2009 CAMP
Tempe, AZ, Date/Topics TBD
Student identity lifecycle will be the topic. More on this will be forthcoming as info is available. The title and abstracts should be available publicly in the near future. Feedback and discussion are encouraged on the mailing list.
- June 2009 CAMP
Given the foreseen travel cutbacks, the goal is to get information out as soon as possible. Ann sent a note to the MACE list summarizing the discussions about options and seeking feedback.
It was noted that the potential CAMP topics are largely oriented toward implementation, and perhaps there would be value in developing a framework and common vocabulary for discussing implementations.
The question of working to align CAMP with the ITANA meeting (adjacent to the Spring Internet2 Member Meeting) was discussed, and it seems that the ITANA focus is largely orthogonal to that of MACE.
- TF-EMC2/REFEDS – next meeting
http://www.terena.org/activities/refeds/
This is still in the early stages of planning. It may be appended to the November 2008 TF-EMC2 meeting.
- CSG
January 7-9, 2009, Boulder, CO
- Spring Internet2 Member Meeting
April 27-29, 2009, Arlington, VA

- TERENA Networking Conference 2009
