*Discussion*
The group reviewed the Shibboleth and Workflow CAMPs. The Shibboleth CAMP had a large turnout, with lots of new faces; the content emphasized business practices and policy. The presenters advised a phased deployment, starting with using Shibboleth for intra-campus authentication; this approach was well-received by the attendees. There is increasing interest in making the Shibboleth install-fests bigger and turning them into stand-alone events. Presentations from the Shibboleth CAMP are at http://www.educause.edu/10245.
The Workflow CAMP also went well, including presentations on open-source and Oracle-based university deployments; Bob suggested extracting some best practices from this material. Microsoft's "workflow foundation" is coming soon in some versions of Windows. Ken is drafting an outline of possible Mellon-funded MACE work in the workflow area. Presentations from the Workflow CAMP are at http://www.educause.edu/Proceedings/10393.
Upcoming meetings:
- The Advanced EuroCAMP on "Moving towards Confederations" is set for October 18-19 in Malaga, Spain; see http://www.terena.nl/activities/eurocamp/october06/.
- The EDUCAUSE IdM Stakeholders Meeting is November 2-3 in Washington, DC.
- The Signet/Grouper CAMP is November 7-9 in Denver; note that this is the same week as the San Diego IETF.
The perfSONAR group (http://www.perfsonar.net/) is interested in having a lightweight CA to use in its work. The SASL CA built into LionShare is a good candidate -- it's very simple, it runs on Java, and turning it into a stand-alone product looks feasible. Bob suggested this could also lead to incorporating the SASL CA into the MACE software suite. [AI] Steve Olshansky will organize a discussion of the possibility of turning the LionShare SASL CA into stand-alone software, bringing together the appropriate people from perfSONAR, Penn State, and MACE. [AI] Jim will get HEPKI-TAG to take a look at the LionShare SASL CA in the context of TAG's "make install CA" work.
Scott noted that OSIS has evolved into a forum for coordination among preexisting open-source digital identity projects; see http://osis.netmesh.org/.
