*Discussion*

The meeting opened with a discussion of Bob's document-handling proposal. No changes have been suggested by the leaders of the Internet2 working group revitalization effort; [AI] Bob will send mail announcing the document-handling proposal as approved pending further comments, and the proposal will then be posted on the MACE home page. [AI] Neal will contribute text a) specifying that Internet2 is not competing with IETF, b) providing guidelines for migrating Internet2 documents to IETF documents, and c) very briefly addressing intellectual property issues.

Thanks to Keith and Michael, MACE now has a prospective member from the Grid community: Von Welch. Welch works for Ian Foster, who has expressed support for his participation. Two particular areas of work that have been discussed for this collaboration are a) producing a series of documents and guidelines for academic departments that want to deploy directories consistent with both the university community and the Grid, and b) reconciling inconsistencies among certs. [AI] Ken will send the list information on Von's work. [AI] Bob will call Von to talk about the possibility of him joining MACE.

The Early Adopters group held a successful workshop last week in Memphis. EA has reached the end of its funding, but as its participants want to keep the group going, and as many of EA's activities (such as the Memphis workshop) have been funded by its participants anyway, this is not seen as a reason to bring the project to a close. Next steps discussed included producing a final report for the concluding first phase of the project, bringing in new schools (with the first phase seen as having trained the trainers of these new participants), and putting on an EDUCAUSE 2001 pre-conference seminar.

Ken reported back from the latest Ed/Fed meeting. There is still no budget for the FBCA. The Feds are very interested in Shibboleth, but they come at it from a PKI-centric standpoint. The HEBCA ownership issues appear to have been resolved; the bridge will probably be set up under the auspices of EDUCAUSE, which would like to fund it on a cost recovery basis. HEPKI is well positioned as the advisory group for HEBCA. Jim's HEBCA technical requirements group will probably be asked to produce specs for possible outsourcing, and PAG will continue work on the HEBCA CP. The FPKI TWG is having a meeting on naming on Dec. 8; Michael will be there to argue for dc naming.

Steven has suggested that MACE meet to discuss Shibboleth architectures at the CSG meeting coming up in January. [AI] Ken will email Antonelli proposing a Thursday morning Shibboleth meeting at CSG. [AI] Keith will contact Michael about the portals session at CSG. [AI] Renee will contact Gavin about the portals session at CSG. Scott Fullerton will be one of the presenters at the portals session; [AI] Renee will add Scott Fullerton to all MACE lists.

Keith encouraged MACE to take a look at the release-candidate draft of eduPerson 1.0 he sent out. Shibboleth is also making progress; Bob will be discussing it at IETF next week. A lot of work on web-security issues is happening in W3C, and it has been suggested that Internet2 become an affiliate of that organization; Bob asked the group to give some thought to this suggestion.
